At this year’s ANCC Magnet and Pathway to Excellence Conference, one message came through loud and clear: to solve the workforce crisis, we must start by supporting nurse well-being. Reducing administrative burden and creating healthy, efficient work environments isn’t optional–it’s essential.
That’s why we were proud to share a major milestone at the conference: Propelus CE Broker now supports nurses in all 50 states. Nurses can now track continuing education (CE) requirements for licensure and certifications nationwide, helping them stay compliant and grow their careers without added stress.
After an exciting few days at ANCC, we came away with the following key takeaways for both nursing and HR leaders, as well as staff nurses.
Key take-aways for HR and clinical nursing leaders
Create positive practice environments. Retention starts with culture. Psychological safety, accessible mental health resources, and clear anti-violence policies show nurses they’re valued and protected.
Strengthen the talent pipeline. Reliance on temporary staff isn’t sustainable. Building partnerships with academic institutions and formal nurse residency programs helps ensure a steady, local workforce.
Leverage technology for efficiency. Innovation should make nurses’ lives easier. From virtual nursing to workflow automation, investing in tools that remove clicks and cut administrative time means more time for patient care.
Key take-aways for staff nurses
Strategies for well-being. Focusing on personal well-being is crucial because it directly addresses the ongoing healthcare crisis of burnout, mental health challenges, and retention by implementing resilience strategies like peer support, helpful technology to manage nursing career requirements, and positive work environments.
Celebrating nursing excellence. The ANCC conference served to celebrate and recognize excellence in nursing, specifically demonstrating that exemplary professional practice drives improvement in healthcare delivery and quality. Nurses lead the quality improvement and evidence-based practice projects that contribute meaningfully to saving lives and reducing harm.
The ANCC conference highlighted a clear path forward for the healthcare workforce. Leaders in HR and clinical settings must prioritize creating a culture of psychological safety to drive retention, build sustainable talent pipelines through academic partnerships, and strategically implement technology to maximize efficiency. For all staff nurses, the focus remains on personal well-being and resilience to combat burnout, while continuing to champion the professional excellence and evidence-based practice that elevates patient care and quality across the industry.
Advancing workforce health together
