Every two years, physicians licensed in Florida must satisfy continuing medical education (CME) requirements before renewing their medical licenses. With Propelus CE Broker®, we help you find the right board-accepted CME and make sure your completed credits are properly tracked and reported so you can renew on time without interruptions.

Understanding Florida CME requirements for your 2026 renewal

For physicians licensed under the Florida Board of Medicine, the CME requirements are set by the board and tracked electronically through CE Broker:

Total CME hours required: 40 American Medical Association (AMA) CME hours every biennial renewal cycle

Required topics

Within those 40 hours¹, the board mandates specific topic coverage:

  • Medical Errors: 2 hours every renewal cycle.
  • Controlled Substances Prescribing: 2 hours if you are registered with the DEA and authorized to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Domestic Violence: 2 hours every third renewal cycle.
  • HIV/AIDS: Required for first renewal only.

Important notes

  • Non-mandatory general CME hours can be filled with board-accepted courses in your subject area.
  • CME hours must be completed during the current licensure cycle.
  • Certain volunteering or exemptions may apply under specific circumstances; check the Florida Board of Medicine renewal rules for details.

Finding board-accepted CME courses

CE Broker maintains an extensive catalog of CME activities that are board-accepted and compliant with Florida requirements. You can search by topic area and earn credits that count toward your 2026 renewal.

Reporting your CME in CE Broker

Florida requires that all continuing medical education be reported to an electronic tracking system before license renewal. CE Broker is the official system used by the Florida Department of Health Division of Medical Quality Assurance, and it tracks your CME completion status as part of your renewal readiness.

Take these steps to make sure your CME is reported properly and you’re making necessary progress towards CME compliance:

1. Create or log in to your CE Broker account

  • We recommend that you activate your Basic Account (it’s free!) to view your requirements and report your CME. For an enhanced experience, check out our subscription levels. Note: this search page lets you filter by profession.

2. Take board-accepted courses

  • If your CME provider reports hours automatically, they will appear in your CE Broker transcript. Our paid subscription levels include a transcript, learn more.
  • If not, you can self-report your CME using the self report button.
  • Premium subscriptions come with the ability for physicians to report and apply general AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ hours to eligible licenses simultaneously
  • Our Pro+ subscription includes the cost of courses!

3. Review your requirements

  • Confirm that all hours and required topic areas (medical errors, controlled substances, etc.) are reflected before you renew your license.

4. Ensure completions are reported before your renewal deadline

Tips for a smooth 2026 renewal process

  • Start early. Don’t wait until the last months of your cycle to complete the required CME.
  • Verify provider reporting. Look for courses from providers that automatically report to CE Broker to reduce self-reporting work.
  • Track your progress. Use CE Broker to monitor what’s complete and what’s still needed.
