If you’re a nurse licensed in Florida and your license is set to renew in 2026, now is the perfect time to get your continuing education (CE) hours lined up and properly reported. At Propelus CE Broker, we make that easier than ever.
What CE do you need for your 2026 renewal?
According to the Florida Board of Nursing, most nurses, especially Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)s, Registered Nurse (RN)s, or Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)s, are required to complete a set of CE hours every two years to maintain an active license.
Here’s a breakdown of the general CE requirements you should be aware of:
For LPNs and RNs (every biennial renewal)
- 16 contact hours of general continuing education
- 2 hours prevention of medical errors
- 2 hours Florida laws and rules governing nursing practice
- 2 hours human trafficking awareness/response
Additional/periodic requirements
- Recognizing impairment in the workplace: 2 hours, every other renewal cycle.
- Domestic violence training: 2 hours, every third renewal, in addition to the usual hours.
- HIV/AIDS: 1 hour, but only required once at the first renewal.
New requirements
- As of July 1, 2025, healthcare practitioners must comply with background screening requirements when applying for initial licensure or renewing their license.

What that means for 2026
If your license renewal falls in 2026, plan to complete at least the standard 24 hours and check whether your renewal cycle triggers the extra courses like the impairment training, or domestic violence course. If it’s your first renewal after initial licensure, make sure to include the 1-hour HIV/AIDS course.
How can you fulfill CE requirements and why use CE Broker?
As the CE tracking system officially adopted by the Florida Board of Nursing, CE Broker gives you a streamlined way to satisfy, track, and report your CE requirements.
- Use CE Broker’s Course Search to find board-accepted CE that fulfills your required categories.
- Through the CE Broker and FLDOH partnership, courses taken with CE Broker or a reporting education provider are automatically reported to the board on your behalf.
- If you completed a course elsewhere, log into your CE Broker account and click Report CE. This video shows you how to do that. If you don’t have an account yet, set up your free basic account here.
- Once all required courses are reported and CE requirements are met, your CE Broker account will show a green check mark and a complete compliance status.
For licensees who want more tracking power, the optional premium accounts provide a dynamic compliance transcript. This shows licensees exactly which requirements are met and which are still outstanding. Or, sign up for the Pro+ account, where you can save up to 70% with our all-inclusive, comprehensive CE management subscription that includes education.
Important notes and best practices
- The CE hours you complete must be accepted by the Florida Board of Nursing or a recognized national accrediting body.
- CE that’s completed and reported before your license expires is what counts. CE Broker recommends building in a few days for processing.
- If you hold more than one license (for example, LPN + another credential), make sure you select the correct license when reporting CE.
